The Tea on Coaching
Life coaching is not therapy or a substitute for therapy. Many clients use therapy in conjunction with coaching or have previously had a therapist. There are many similarities between coaching and therapy, but some of the main differences are:
Life coaches can not diagnose mental health diagnoses.
This doesn’t mean we can’t work together if you have a diagnosis OR that we’ll never discuss mental health or learn skills to manage it.
Life coaches focus less on the past to understand problematic behaviors and mindset and more on how to identify and shift said behaviors and mindsets.
This doesn’t mean the past will never be discussed, but it is not always the focus.
Coaches tend to focus on the “how” to accomplish goals instead of the “why” behavior patterns that occur.
Coaches tend to focus less on the exploration of the subconscious and unconscious mind and more on actions and results.
Coaches tend to focus more on an individual’s behavior changes and goal progress to measure success.
